This program teaches the basic principles, design & operation of centrifugal & positive displacement pumps. It also provides participants with the knowledge & skills required to install, operate, maintain & repair this type of equipment. The course discusses the construction & use of these pumps in practical situations.

Course Modules

Module 1: Mechanics Of Fluid

  • Nature of pressure- pressure & heat
  • Measurement of static fluids- use of static pressure
  • Nature of flow- rate of flow in vessels & in pumping - measurements of rate of flow

Module 2: Centrifugal Pumps

  • Fundamentals of hydraulics applied to centrifugal pumps- centrifugal force
  • Pump design- pump parts- priming
  • Cavitation – start up & shut down procedures
  • Troubleshooting- repair & maintenance

Module 3: Positive Displacement Pumps

  • Fundamentals of hydraulics applied to positive displacement pumps
  • Pump rating- performance characteristics
  • Operation & maintenance
  • Reciprocating pumps- rotary pumps – construction details
